MAXHUB Pivot client application
Notes
Legal Notice and Terms of Use: This product is provided subject to this Notification (https://www.cisa.gov/notification) and this Privacy & Use policy (https://www.cisa.gov/privacy-policy).
Advisory Summary: Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may enable an attacker to access tenant email addresses and associated information in cleartext or cause a denial-of-service condition.
Critical infrastructure sectors: Information Technology
Countries/areas deployed: Worldwide
Company headquarters location: United States
Recommended Practices: CISA recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of this vulnerability. Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, ensuring they are not accessible from the Internet. Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls and isolating them from business networks. When remote access is required, use more secure methods, such as virtual private networks (VPNs), recognizing VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize VPN is only as secure as the connected devices.
Recommended Practices: CISA reminds organizations to perform proper impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying defensive measures.
Recommended Practices: CISA also provides a section for control systems security recommended practices on the ICS webpage on cisa.gov/ics. Several CISA products detailing cyber defense best practices are available for reading and download, including Improving Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity with Defense-in-Depth Strategies.
Recommended Practices: CISA encourages organizations to implement recommended cybersecurity strategies for proactive defense of ICS assets.
Recommended Practices: Additional mitigation guidance and recommended practices are publicly available on the ICS webpage at cisa.gov/ics in the technical information paper, ICS-TIP-12-146-01B--Targeted Cyber Intrusion Detection and Mitigation Strategies.
Recommended Practices: Organizations observing suspected malicious activity should follow established internal procedures and report findings to CISA for tracking and correlation against other incidents.
Recommended Practices: No known public exploitation specifically targeting this vulnerability has been reported to CISA at this time.

"category": "summary",
"text": "This vulnerability, in the MAXHUB Pivot client application versions prior to v1.36.2, may allow an attacker to obtain encrypted tenant email addresses and related metadata from any tenant. Due to the presence of a hardcoded AES key within the application, the encrypted data can be decrypted, enabling access to tenant email addresses and associated information in cleartext. Furthermore, an attacker may be able to cause a denial-of-service condition by enrolling multiple unauthorized devices into a tenant via MQTT, potentially disrupting tenant operations.",

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Related by attack behaviour
Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
