Title
mlxsw: spectrum_acl_tcam: Fix warning during rehash
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mlxsw: spectrum_acl_tcam: Fix warning during rehash
As previously explained, the rehash delayed work migrates filters from
one region to another. This is done by iterating over all chunks (all
the filters with the same priority) in the region and in each chunk
iterating over all the filters.
When the work runs out of credits it stores the current chunk and entry
as markers in the per-work context so that it would know where to resume
the migration from the next time the work is scheduled.
Upon error, the chunk marker is reset to NULL, but without resetting the
entry markers despite being relative to it. This can result in migration
being resumed from an entry that does not belong to the chunk being
migrated. In turn, this will eventually lead to a chunk being iterated
over as if it is an entry. Because of how the two structures happen to
be defined, this does not lead to KASAN splats, but to warnings such as
[1].
Fix by creating a helper that resets all the markers and call it from
all the places the currently only reset the chunk marker. For good
measures also call it when starting a completely new rehash. Add a
warning to avoid future cases.
AV:L - The vulnerability is reached by installing and removing tc flower filters on an mlxsw Spectrum port via rtnetlink, which requires local access to the switch's control plane. There is no path to trigger the rehash migration from received network packets.
AC:L - The attacker controls both sides of the timing window — installing more than MLXSW_SP_ACL_TCAM_VREGION_REHASH_CREDITS (100) rules deterministically forces the periodic rehash work to be interrupted with a stale start_ventry, and then adding or deleting a rule at a lower priority creates a vchunk that sorts ahead of it, guaranteeing the marker mismatch. The 5-second rehash interval and unlimited retries make this reliably reproducible.
PR:L - tc filter installation is gated only by netlink_net_capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) checked against the network namespace's user_ns, and mlxsw ports do not set NETIF_F_NETNS_LOCAL, so a switch port delegated into a container/tenant netns lets an otherwise unprivileged user with a user namespace reach this path. No real root in the init namespace is required.
UI:N - The rehash delayed work runs automatically every 5 seconds by default and the attacker triggers the whole sequence with their own tc filter operations. No action by any other user is needed.
S:U - The corruption stays within the kernel's own memory and the switch driver's data structures, all under the same security authority. No hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:H - The fabricated ventry causes wild reads through confused pointers — vgroup memory is read as struct mlxsw_sp_acl_rule_info and encoded into TCAM key registers, and entry->chunk->region->priv is walked from a list pointer, exposing kernel memory contents that can be reflected into observable hardware ACL state.
I:H - This is a type confusion that yields write primitives — kfree() of an interior offset of another vchunk object corrupts the slab allocator, ventry->entry = new_entry overwrites an rhashtable chain pointer, and garbage-derived rules are programmed into the switch's ACL TCAM, corrupting the packet-filtering security control itself.
A:H - ventry->entry aliases ht_node.next, which is NULL for the last node in a hash bucket, producing an immediate NULL pointer dereference and oops inside the mlxsw_core workqueue kthread; the resulting slab and rhashtable corruption additionally leads to later panics."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
