af_unix: fix use-after-free in unix_stream_read_actor()
Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
af_unix: fix use-after-free in unix_stream_read_actor()
syzbot reported the following crash [1]
After releasing unix socket lock, u->oob_skb can be changed
by another thread. We must temporarily increase skb refcount
to make sure this other thread will not free the skb under us.
AV:L - The bug is reached only via local AF_UNIX stream socket syscalls (socketpair/sendmsg/recvmsg with MSG_OOB); Unix domain sockets are local IPC and are not driven by remote network peers.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls both sides of the race—one thread doing recvmsg(MSG_OOB|MSG_PEEK) and another doing sendmsg(MSG_OOB) on the same connected pair—and can retry until the window after unix_state_unlock is hit; CONFIG_AF_UNIX_OOB is default y.
PR:L - Any unprivileged local user can create an AF_UNIX SOCK_STREAM socketpair and send/receive MSG_OOB data with no capabilities, privileged setsockopt, or user-namespace setup required.
UI:N - Exploitation runs entirely on the attacker's own socketpair via their own syscalls; no victim action or interaction is required.
S:U - The use-after-free corrupts kernel heap state within the same security authority and yields standard local privilege escalation, not a VM/IOMMU boundary cross.
C:H - Use-after-free of an sk_buff lets recv copy from a freed skbuff_head_cache object into userspace; with heap spraying this becomes an arbitrary kernel memory read primitive.
I:H - UAF of a sprayable sk_buff enables heap reuse and type confusion with further skb operations, providing a classic write/control-flow hijack primitive for arbitrary code execution.
A:H - Dereferencing the freed skb produces a KASAN slab-use-after-free (and without KASAN, oops/panic from wild pointer use), so any unprivileged user can crash the kernel."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
