Kernel Offset: disabled
Rebooting in 86400 seconds..
The issue is caused when the value of lp becomes greater than
CTLTREESIZE which is the max size of stree. Adding a simple check
solves this issue.
Dave:
As the function returns a void, good error handling
would require a more intrusive code reorganization, so I modified
Osama's patch at use WARN_ON_ONCE for lack of a cleaner option.
The patch is tested via syzbot.

"value": "AV:L - The bug is reached only after locally mounting an attacker-crafted JFS block/loop image and then freeing blocks (mount \u2192 jfs_fill_super \u2192 file ops \u2192 txLazyCommit \u2192 dbFree \u2192 dbFreeBits \u2192 dbJoin \u2192 dbAdjTree); fs/jfs has no network or adjacent-protocol entry path.\nAC:L - On-disk dmap/dmapctl fields such as leafidx/nleafs are taken from the attacker-controlled image without a check on the dbFreeBits\u2192dbJoin\u2192dbAdjTree path, so lp = leafno + leafidx can be set to a huge value (syzbot: 196694) and the OOB is triggered reliably with ordinary free/truncate operations and no race.\nPR:L - As with sibling JFS crafted-image CVEs (e.g. CVE-2023-52804/52810/53222), an unprivileged local session user can attach the malicious image via udisks2/polkit/automount on desktops, kiosks, and shared workstations, then trigger dbFree with ordinary file operations.\nUI:N - The attacker supplies the image, causes it to be mounted (including via automount/udisks on their own session), and drives free/truncate themselves; no separate victim action is required at exploitation time.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds access corrupts host-kernel metapage/heap memory within the same OS security authority and does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or other boundary.\nC:H - dbJoin indexes leaf[] via the corrupted leafidx and dbAdjTree reads dmt_stree[lp] far past CTLTREESIZE/TREESIZE (index ~196694), enabling out-of-bounds reads of adjacent kernel memory that can be leveraged for disclosure.\nI:H - dbAdjTree performs an out-of-bounds write of newval into dmt_stree[lp] and may bubble further writes up the tree past the metapage buffer, giving a kernel heap corruption/write primitive suitable for control-flow hijacking.\nA:H - Syzbot reproduced UBSAN array-index-out-of-bounds in dbAdjTree that panics under panic_on_warn, and the same wild heap access can oops/crash the kernel without UBSAN."

The MITRE ATT&CK techniques below are AI-generated suggestions, inferred from the description of the
vulnerability by the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-classification-roberta-base
model, served locally by ML-Gateway.
They have not been verified by an analyst and are provided for guidance only.
The approach is described in our paper Mapping CVEs to MITRE ATT&CK Techniques: A Curated Gold-Set Classifier and the Limits of LLM-Assisted Label Expansion.

Vulnerabilities whose description is nearest to this one in the vector space of the CIRCL/vulnerability-attack-technique-biencoder model. This is a similarity search over the bi-encoder space (plain cosine), not a classification, and it has no measured accuracy.
