CVE-2023-32176 — VIPRE Antivirus Plus SetPrivateConfig Directory Traversal Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Affected: VIPRE Antivirus Plus, vipre antivirus_plus

VIPRE Antivirus Plus SetPrivateConfig Directory Traversal Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations of VIPRE Antivirus Plus. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the SetPrivateConfig method. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied path prior to using it in file operations. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM.
