      <description>&lt;p&gt;Mermaid is a JavaScript based diagramming and charting tool that uses Markdown-inspired text definitions and a renderer to create and modify complex diagrams. In the default configuration of mermaid 11.9.0 and earlier, user supplied input for architecture diagram icons is passed to the d3 html() method, creating a sink for cross site scripting. This vulnerability is fixed in 11.10.0.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>GHSA-8gwm-58g9-j8pw — Mermaid does not properly sanitize architecture diagram iconText leading to XSS</title>
      <link>https://cve.radiocsirt.org/vuln/ghsa-8gwm-58g9-j8pw</link>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Affected:&lt;/strong&gt; npm: mermaid&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;### Summary
In the default configuration of mermaid 11.9.0, user supplied input for architecture diagram icons is passed to the d3 `html()` method, creating a sink for cross site scripting.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;### Details
Architecture diagram service `iconText` values are passed to the d3 `html()` method, allowing malicious users to inject arbitrary HTML and cause XSS when mermaid-js is used in it&amp;#39;s default configuration.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The vulnerability lies here:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;```ts
export const drawServices = async function (
  db: ArchitectureDB,
  elem: D3Element,
  services: ArchitectureService[]
): Promise&amp;lt;number&amp;gt; {
  for (const service of services) {
    /** ... **/
    } else if (service.iconText) {
      bkgElem.html(
        `&amp;lt;g&amp;gt;${await getIconSVG(&amp;#39;blank&amp;#39;, { height: iconSize, width: iconSize, fallbackPrefix: architectureIcons.prefix })}&amp;lt;/g&amp;gt;`
      );
      const textElemContainer = bkgElem.append(&amp;#39;g&amp;#39;);
      const fo = textElemContainer
        .append(&amp;#39;foreignObject&amp;#39;)
        .attr(&amp;#39;width&amp;#39;, iconSize)
        .attr(&amp;#39;height&amp;#39;, iconSize);
      const divElem = fo
        .append(&amp;#39;div&amp;#39;)
        .attr(&amp;#39;class&amp;#39;, &amp;#39;node-icon-text&amp;#39;)
        .attr(&amp;#39;style&amp;#39;, `height: ${iconSize}px;`)
        .append(&amp;#39;div&amp;#39;)
        .html(service.iconText); // &amp;lt;- iconText passed into innerHTML
       /** ... **/
};
};
