Affected: libopensc, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9

A vulnerability was found in OpenSC, OpenSC tools, PKCS#11 module, minidriver, and CTK. An attacker could use a crafted USB Device or Smart Card, which would present the system with a specially crafted response to APDUs.

The following problems were caused by insufficient control of the response APDU buffer and its length when communicating with the card.

It was discovered that OpenSC did not correctly handle certain memory
operations, which could lead to a use-after-free vulnerability. An
attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service or
execute arbitrary code. This issue only affected Ubuntu 16.04 LTS,
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. (CVE-2021-42780)
