    <title>ALSA-2023:0192 — Moderate: java-17-openjdk security and bug fix update</title>
    <updated>2026-10-02T15:27:37.604196+00:00</updated>
    <content type="xhtml">
      <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><strong>Affected:</strong> AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-demo, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-demo-fastdebug, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-demo-slowdebug, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-devel, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-devel-fastdebug, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-devel-slowdebug, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-fastdebug, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-headless, AlmaLinux:8: java-17-openjdk-headless-fastdebug and 13 more</p>
<p>The java-17-openjdk packages provide the OpenJDK 17 Java Runtime Environment and the OpenJDK 17 Java Software Development Kit.</p>
<p>Security Fix(es):</p>
<p>* OpenJDK: handshake DoS attack against DTLS connections (JSSE, 8287411) (CVE-2023-21835)
* OpenJDK: soundbank URL remote loading (Sound, 8293742) (CVE-2023-21843)</p>
<p>For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.</p>
<p>Bug Fix(es):</p>
<p>* In FIPS mode, the use of a SQLite database provided by NSS was assumed, which was opened in read-only mode and with no PIN expected. This prevented the use of other databases or setting a PIN on the NSS database. This update allows more control over database use using two new properties - fips.nssdb.path and fips.nssdb.pin - which can be configured permanently in the java.security file or temporarily via command-line arguments to the Java virtual machine (RHBZ#2147473)
* Prepare for the next quarterly OpenJDK upstream release (2023-01, 17.0.6) [almalinux-8] (BZ#2153010)</p></div>

Supported versions that are affected are Oracle Java SE: 17.0.3.1; Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition: 21.3.2 and 22.1.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM Enterprise Edition accessible data. Note: This vulnerability applies to Java deployments, typically in clients running sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets, that load and run untrusted code (e.g., code that comes from the internet) and rely on the Java sandbox for security. This vulnerability can also be exploited by using APIs in the specified Component, e.g., through a web service which supplies data to the APIs. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 5.3 (Integrity impacts).
