Summary
Reference binding to null in `ParameterizedTruncatedNormal`
Details

Impact

An attacker can trigger undefined behavior by binding to null pointer in tf.raw_ops.ParameterizedTruncatedNormal:

import tensorflow as tf

shape = tf.constant([], shape=[0], dtype=tf.int32)
means = tf.constant((1), dtype=tf.float32)
stdevs = tf.constant((1), dtype=tf.float32)
minvals = tf.constant((1), dtype=tf.float32)
maxvals = tf.constant((1), dtype=tf.float32)

tf.raw_ops.ParameterizedTruncatedNormal(
  shape=shape, means=means, stdevs=stdevs, minvals=minvals, maxvals=maxvals)

This is because the implementation does not validate input arguments before accessing the first element of shape:

int32 num_batches = shape_tensor.flat<int32>()(0);

If shape argument is empty, then shape_tensor.flat<T>() is an empty array.

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 5e52ef5a461570cfb68f3bdbbebfe972cb4e0fd8.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.5.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.4.2, TensorFlow 2.3.3, TensorFlow 2.2.3 and TensorFlow 2.1.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Details

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of IronCAD. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of STP files. When parsing the VECTOR element, the process does not properly initialize a pointer prior to accessing it. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-17672.

GHSA-4X8V-RCHJ-QVPF

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-03-30 00:00 – Updated: 2025-11-03 21:30
VLAI
Details

A flaw was found in the opj2_decompress program in openjpeg2 2.4.0 in the way it handles an input directory with a large number of files. When it fails to allocate a buffer to store the filenames of the input directory, it calls free() on an uninitialized pointer, leading to a segmentation fault and a denial of service.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-10-11 12:00 – Updated: 2022-10-12 19:00
VLAI
Details

A vulnerability has been identified in JTTK (All versions < V11.1.1.0), Simcenter Femap V2022.1 (All versions < V2022.1.3), Simcenter Femap V2022.2 (All versions < V2022.2.2). The JTTK library is vulnerable to an uninitialized pointer reference vulnerability while parsing specially crafted JT files. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. (ZDI-CAN-16973)

GHSA-4XFP-4PFP-89WG

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2021-08-25 14:42 – Updated: 2024-11-13 20:52
VLAI
Summary
Reference binding to nullptr in `RaggedTensorToSparse`
Details

Impact

An attacker can cause undefined behavior via binding a reference to null pointer in tf.raw_ops.RaggedTensorToSparse:

import tensorflow as tf

tf.raw_ops.RaggedTensorToSparse(
  rt_nested_splits=[[0, 38, 0]],
  rt_dense_values=[])

The implementation has an incomplete validation of the splits values: it does not check that they are in increasing order.

Patches

We have patched the issue in GitHub commit 1071f554dbd09f7e101324d366eec5f4fe5a3ece.

The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.6.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.5.1, TensorFlow 2.4.3, and TensorFlow 2.3.4, as these are also affected and still in supported range.

Please consult our security guide for more information regarding the security model and how to contact us with issues and questions.

Details

A vulnerability has been identified in Solid Edge SE2021 (All versions < SE2021MP8). The affected application is vulnerable to information disclosure by unexpected access to an uninitialized pointer while parsing user-supplied OBJ files. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to leak information from unexpected memory locations (ZDI-CAN-13770).

Details

** DISPUTED ** A vulnerability was found in ewxrjk sftpserver. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function sftp_parse_path of the file parse.c. The manipulation leads to uninitialized pointer. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The name of the patch is bf4032f34832ee11d79aa60a226cc018e7ec5eed. It is recommended to apply a patch to fix this issue. The identifier VDB-216205 was assigned to this vulnerability. NOTE: In some deployment models this would be a vulnerability. README specifically warns about avoiding such deployment models.
