Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-01-12 21:30 – Updated: 2024-05-22 18:30
VLAI
Details

A flaw was found in the QEMU built-in VNC server while processing ClientCutText messages. The qemu_clipboard_request() function can be reached before vnc_server_cut_text_caps() was called and had the chance to initialize the clipboard peer, leading to a NULL pointer dereference. This could allow a malicious authenticated VNC client to crash QEMU and trigger a denial of service.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-09-29 18:31 – Updated: 2026-09-29 18:31

Details

A flaw was found in KubeVirt. An authenticated user with permission to create Virtual Machine Instances (VMIs) can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by submitting a virtual machine definition with an empty ephemeral volume. The virt-controller component fails to properly validate the volume configuration, leading to an unhandled exception and application crash during processing. Because the malformed definition persists in the cluster, the controller enters a continuous crash loop, disrupting virtual machine lifecycle operations across the entire environment.

GHSA-X9J4-33QM-HGJP

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-02-18 18:33 – Updated: 2025-02-19 15:32
VLAI
Details

An issue was discovered in Fluent Bit 3.1.9. When the Prometheus Remote Write input plugin is running and listening on an IP address and port, one can send a packet with Content-Length: 0 and it crashes the server. Improper handling of the case when Content-Length is 0 allows a user (with access to the endpoint) to perform a remote Denial of service attack. The crash happens because of a NULL pointer dereference when 0 (from the Content-Length) is passed to the function cfl_sds_len, which in turn tries to cast a NULL pointer into struct cfl_sds. This is related to process_payload_metrics_ng() at prom_rw_prot.c.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/amd/display: Fix null pointer dereference in error message

This patch fixes a null pointer dereference in the error message that is printed when the Display Core (DC) fails to initialize. The original message includes the DC version number, which is undefined if the DC is not initialized.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: sched: cake: fix null pointer access issue when cake_init() fails

When the default qdisc is cake, if the qdisc of dev_queue fails to be inited during mqprio_init(), cake_reset() is invoked to clear resources. In this case, the tins is NULL, and it will cause gpf issue.

The process is as follows: qdisc_create_dflt() cake_init() q->tins = kvcalloc(...) --->failed, q->tins is NULL ... qdisc_put() ... cake_reset() ... cake_dequeue_one() b = &q->tins[...] --->q->tins is NULL

The following is the Call Trace information: general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0xdffffc0000000000: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP KASAN KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000000-0x0000000000000007] RIP: 0010:cake_dequeue_one+0xc9/0x3c0 Call Trace: cake_reset+0xb1/0x140 qdisc_reset+0xed/0x6f0 qdisc_destroy+0x82/0x4c0 qdisc_put+0x9e/0xb0 qdisc_create_dflt+0x2c3/0x4a0 mqprio_init+0xa71/0x1760 qdisc_create+0x3eb/0x1000 tc_modify_qdisc+0x408/0x1720 rtnetlink_rcv_msg+0x38e/0xac0 netlink_rcv_skb+0x12d/0x3a0 netlink_unicast+0x4a2/0x740 netlink_sendmsg+0x826/0xcc0 sock_sendmsg+0xc5/0x100 _syssendmsg+0x583/0x690 _sys_sendmsg+0xe8/0x160 __sys_sendmsg+0xbf/0x160 do_syscall_64+0x35/0x80 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x46/0xb0 RIP: 0033:0x7f89e5122d04

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
