Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-06-15 00:00 – Updated: 2022-06-24 00:00
VLAI
Details

Microsoft Windows SMBv3 suffers from a null pointer dereference in versions of Windows prior to the April, 2022 patch set. By sending a malformed FileNormalizedNameInformation SMBv3 request over a named pipe, an attacker can cause a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crash of the Windows kernel. For most systems, this attack requires authentication, except in the special case of Windows Domain Controllers, where unauthenticated users can always open named pipes as long as they can establish an SMB session. Typically, after the BSOD, the victim SMBv3 server will reboot.

GHSA-CH3P-MHX6-FJX9

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-09-18 09:30 – Updated: 2025-11-04 00:31
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: mwifiex: Do not return unused priv in mwifiex_get_priv_by_id()

mwifiex_get_priv_by_id() returns the priv pointer corresponding to the bss_num and bss_type, but without checking if the priv is actually currently in use. Unused priv pointers do not have a wiphy attached to them which can lead to NULL pointer dereferences further down the callstack. Fix this by returning only used priv pointers which have priv->bss_mode set to something else than NL80211_IFTYPE_UNSPECIFIED.

Said NULL pointer dereference happened when an Accesspoint was started with wpa_supplicant -i mlan0 with this config:

network={ ssid="somessid" mode=2 frequency=2412 key_mgmt=WPA-PSK WPA-PSK-SHA256 proto=RSN group=CCMP pairwise=CCMP psk="12345678" }

When waiting for the AP to be established, interrupting wpa_supplicant with and starting it again this happens:

Details

A KERedirect Untrusted Pointer Dereference Privilege Escalation vulnerability in Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac (Consumer) 7.0 (2017) and above could allow a local attacker to escalate privileges on vulnerable installations. The issue results from the lack of proper validation function on 0x6F6A offset user-supplied buffer. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

cifs: avoid NULL pointer dereference in dbg call

cifs_server_dbg() implies server to be non-NULL so move call under condition to avoid NULL pointer dereference.

Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

GHSA-CHMQ-57C3-4P7V

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-04-22 09:31 – Updated: 2026-07-14 00:31
VLAI
Details

A flaw was found in binutils, specifically within the readelf utility. This vulnerability allows a local attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by tricking a user into processing a specially crafted Executable and Linkable Format (ELF) file. The exploitation of this flaw can lead to the system becoming unresponsive due to excessive resource consumption or a program crash.

Mitigation MIT-56
Implementation

For any pointers that could have been modified or provided from a function that can return NULL, check the pointer for NULL before use. When working with a multithreaded or otherwise asynchronous environment, ensure that proper locking APIs are used to lock before the check, and unlock when it has finished [REF-1484].

Mitigation
Requirements

Select a programming language that is not susceptible to these issues.

Mitigation
Implementation

Check the results of all functions that return a value and verify that the value is non-null before acting upon it.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Identify all variables and data stores that receive information from external sources, and apply input validation to make sure that they are only initialized to expected values.

Mitigation
Implementation

Explicitly initialize all variables and other data stores, either during declaration or just before the first usage.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
