CWE-416
AllowedUse After Free
Abstraction: Variant · Status: Stable
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
11157 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-07-19 12:30 – Updated: 2026-07-20 15:31In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
pNFS: Fix use-after-free in pnfs_update_layout()
When hitting the NFS_LAYOUT_RETURN branch in pnfs_update_layout(), the code calls pnfs_prepare_to_retry_layoutget(lo). If it succeeds, pnfs_put_layout_hdr(lo) is called before trace_pnfs_update_layout(), which still references 'lo'. This results in a use-after-free when the tracepoint accesses lo's fields.
Fix this by moving the tracepoint call before pnfs_put_layout_hdr(lo).

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-01-15 21:31 – Updated: 2026-01-15 21:31A Use After Free vulnerability in the chassis daemon (chassisd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a network-based attacker authenticated with low privileges to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS).
When telemetry collectors are frequently subscribing and unsubscribing to sensors continuously over a long period of time, telemetry-capable processes like chassisd, rpd or mib2d will crash and restart, which - depending on the process - can cause a complete outage until the system has recovered.
This issue affects:
Junos OS:
- all versions before 22.4R3-S8,
- 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S5,
- 23.4 versions before 23.4R2;
Junos OS Evolved:
- all versions before 22.4R3-S8-EVO,
- 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S5-EVO,
- 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-EVO.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-06-09 15:32 – Updated: 2026-06-14 06:30In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
Revert "net/smc: Introduce TCP ULP support"
This reverts commit d7cd421da9da2cc7b4d25b8537f66db5c8331c40.
As reported by Al Viro, the TCP ULP support for SMC is fundamentally
broken. The implementation attempts to convert an active TCP socket
into an SMC socket by modifying the underlying struct file, dentry,
and inode in-place, which violates core VFS invariants that assume
these structures are immutable for an open file, creating a risk of
use after free errors and general system instability.
Given the severity of this design flaw and the fact that cleaner alternatives (e.g., LD_PRELOAD, BPF) exist for legacy application transparency, the correct course of action is to remove this feature entirely.
