Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ice: Fix memory leak in ice_set_ringparam()

In ice_set_ringparam, tx_rings and xdp_rings are allocated before rx_rings. If the allocation of rx_rings fails, the code jumps to the done label leaking both tx_rings and xdp_rings. Furthermore, if the setup of an individual Rx ring fails during the loop, the code jumps to the free_tx label which releases tx_rings but leaks xdp_rings.

Fix this by introducing a free_xdp label and updating the error paths to ensure both xdp_rings and tx_rings are properly freed if rx_rings allocation or setup fails.

Compile tested only. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool and code review.

coresight: syscfg: Fix memleak on registration failure in cscfg_create_device

device_register() calls device_initialize(), according to doc of device_initialize:

Use put_device() to give up your reference instead of freeing
* @dev directly once you have called this function.

To prevent potential memleak, use put_device() for error handling.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

platform/x86/amd: Fix memory leak in wbrf_record()

The tmp buffer is allocated using kcalloc() but is not freed if acpi_evaluate_dsm() fails. This causes a memory leak in the error path.

Fix this by explicitly freeing the tmp buffer in the error handling path of acpi_evaluate_dsm().

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-05-24 19:07 – Updated: 2022-05-24 19:07
VLAI
Details

Multiple vulnerabilities in the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) implementation for Cisco Video Surveillance 7000 Series IP Cameras could allow an unauthenticated, adjacent attacker to cause a memory leak, which could lead to a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. These vulnerabilities are due to incorrect processing of certain LLDP packets at ingress time. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted LLDP packets to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to continuously consume memory, which could cause the device to crash and reload, resulting in a DoS condition. Note: LLDP is a Layer 2 protocol. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker must be in the same broadcast domain as the affected device (Layer 2 adjacent).

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

clk: imx: clk-imx8mn: fix memory leak in imx8mn_clocks_probe

Use devm_of_iomap() instead of of_iomap() to automatically handle the unused ioremap region.

If any error occurs, regions allocated by kzalloc() will leak, but using devm_kzalloc() instead will automatically free the memory using devm_kfree().

fs/ntfs3: Fix some memory leaks in an error handling path of 'log_replay()'

All error handling paths lead to 'out' where many resources are freed.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2024-09-04 21:30 – Updated: 2025-11-04 00:31

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

s390/sclp: Prevent release of buffer in I/O

When a task waiting for completion of a Store Data operation is interrupted, an attempt is made to halt this operation. If this attempt fails due to a hardware or firmware problem, there is a chance that the SCLP facility might store data into buffers referenced by the original operation at a later time.

Handle this situation by not releasing the referenced data buffers if the halt attempt fails. For current use cases, this might result in a leak of few pages of memory in case of a rare hardware/firmware malfunction.

Details

On Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved platforms with EVPN configured, receipt of specific BGP packets causes a slow memory leak. If the memory is exhausted the rpd process might crash. If the issue occurs, the memory leak could be seen by executing the "show task memory detail | match policy | match evpn" command multiple times to check if memory (Alloc Blocks value) is increasing. root@device> show task memory detail | match policy | match evpn ------------------------ Allocator Memory Report ------------------------ Name | Size | Alloc DTXP Size | Alloc Blocks | Alloc Bytes | MaxAlloc Blocks | MaxAlloc Bytes Policy EVPN Params 20 24 3330678 79936272 3330678 79936272 root@device> show task memory detail | match policy | match evpn ------------------------ Allocator Memory Report ------------------------ Name | Size | Alloc DTXP Size | Alloc Blocks | Alloc Bytes | MaxAlloc Blocks | MaxAlloc Bytes Policy EVPN Params 20 24 36620255 878886120 36620255 878886120 This issue affects: Juniper Networks Junos OS 19.4 versions prior to 19.4R2; 20.1 versions prior to 20.1R1-S4, 20.1R2; Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved: 19.4 versions; 20.1 versions prior to 20.1R1-S4-EVO, 20.1R2-EVO; 20.2 versions prior to 20.2R1-EVO; This issue does not affect: Juniper Networks Junos OS releases prior to 19.4R1. GHSA-4WJ9-54W5-MWM9

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-05-27 15:33 – Updated: 2026-06-24 18:32
VLAI
Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

crypto: caam - fix netdev memory leak in dpaa2_caam_probe

When commit 0e1a4d427f58 ("crypto: caam: Unembed net_dev structure in dpaa2") converted embedded net_device to dynamically allocated pointers, it added cleanup in dpaa2_dpseci_disable() but missed adding cleanup in dpaa2_dpseci_free() for error paths.

This causes memory leaks when dpaa2_dpseci_dpio_setup() fails during probe due to DPIO devices not being ready yet. The kernel's deferred probe mechanism handles the retry successfully, but the netdevs allocated during the failed probe attempt are never freed, resulting in kmemleak reports showing multiple leaked netdev-related allocations all traced back to dpaa2_caam_probe().

Fix this by preserving the CPU mask of allocated netdevs during setup and using it for cleanup in dpaa2_dpseci_free(). This approach ensures that only the CPUs that actually had netdevs allocated will be cleaned up, avoiding potential issues with CPU hotplug scenarios.

Mitigation MIT-41
Implementation

Strategy: Libraries or Frameworks

  • Choose a language or tool that provides automatic memory management, or makes manual memory management less error-prone.
  • For example, glibc in Linux provides protection against free of invalid pointers.
  • When using Xcode to target OS X or iOS, enable automatic reference counting (ARC) [REF-391].
  • To help correctly and consistently manage memory when programming in C++, consider using a smart pointer class such as std::auto_ptr (defined by ISO/IEC ISO/IEC 14882:2003), std::shared_ptr and std::unique_ptr (specified by an upcoming revision of the C++ standard, informally referred to as C++ 1x), or equivalent solutions such as Boost.
Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Use an abstraction library to abstract away risky APIs. Not a complete solution.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design Build and Compilation

Consider using the Boehm-Demers-Weiser garbage collector (bdwgc), which can help avoid leaks.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
