The Eventin – Event Calendar, Tickets, Registration, Booking & WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation in all versions up to, and including, 4.1.23. This is due to the `PermissionManager::manage_permissions()` function being registered as a callback on WordPress core's `map_meta_cap` filter and unconditionally returning the always-true `'exist'` primitive for every capability check whenever the evaluated user ID is 1, without scoping this behavior to plugin-specific capabilities. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers whose account is user ID 1, even subscribers, to pass every WordPress capability check, including `manage_options`, `edit_plugins`, `edit_themes`, `promote_users`, and `update_core`, thereby elevating their privileges to administrator-equivalent power and achieving full site takeover, including remote code execution via the plugin and theme editors. Exploitation is only impactful when user ID 1 has been deliberately demoted to a lower-privilege role as a common administrator-account hardening practice; on default installations where user ID 1 retains the administrator role, no incremental privilege gain occurs."

This is due to the `rum_importer()` function being registered on the WordPress core `import_start` action hook with no plugin-owned capability check and no allowlist filtering, causing arbitrary `<wp_option>` name/value pairs parsed from an attacker-supplied WXR import file to be passed directly to `update_option()`. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Shop Manager-level access and above, to write arbitrary WordPress options — most critically setting `users_can_register` to `1` and `default_role` to `administrator` — enabling open self-registration of Administrator accounts and full site takeover. This is exploitable by Shop Manager-level users because WooCommerce grants that role the `import` capability, allowing it to reach the WordPress Importer flow that fires the `import_start` hook on which `rum_importer()` is registered, contrary to the assumption that the hook is restricted to Administrators."

This is due to the `addPluginCapabilities()` function unconditionally granting the Editor role all 15 `manage_capabilities_*` capabilities — including `manage_capabilities`, `manage_capabilities_roles`, `manage_capabilities_settings`, and `manage_capabilities_backup` — via a hard-coded `$eligible_roles = ['administrator', 'editor']` assignment that runs automatically on the first `admin_init` after plugin activation with no administrator opt-in, persisting the grants directly to the database. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with Editor-level access to elevate their privileges to a site-wide capability manager, enabling them to create, rename, and delete non-system roles, modify capabilities of non-administrator roles, restore role backups, and write arbitrary plugin options whose names begin with `cme_`, `capsman`, `pp_capabilities`, or `presspermit` via `update_option()`. The escalation stops short of full Administrator access, as WordPress's `map_meta_cap` layer still prevents the escalated Editor from granting administrator-only capabilities to other roles; however, all role-management and plugin-settings functionality gated solely on `manage_capabilities_*` capabilities remains fully accessible.
en
CodeWhale versions >= 0.8.41 and < 0.8.64 contain a vulnerability in the exec_shell_interact (alias exec_interact) tool, whose approval_requirement returns ApprovalRequirement::Auto. This overrides the default Required approval for code-executing tools, so LLM-controlled stdin is written into an already-approved long-running interactive shell (e.g., a python3 -i REPL, mysql, ssh, or sudo -i session) without any approval prompt. An attacker who can inject instructions via untrusted content the agent ingests (a fetched page, MCP result, or repo file) can cause commands to run at the privilege level of that approved process. Fixed in 0.8.64."

Mitigation MIT-1
Very carefully manage the setting, management, and handling of privileges. Explicitly manage trust zones in the software.
Mitigation MIT-48
Strategy: Separation of Privilege
Follow the principle of least privilege when assigning access rights to entities in a software system.
Mitigation MIT-49
Strategy: Separation of Privilege
Consider following the principle of separation of privilege. Require multiple conditions to be met before permitting access to a system resource.
CAPEC-122: Privilege Abuse
An adversary is able to exploit features of the target that should be reserved for privileged users or administrators but are exposed to use by lower or non-privileged accounts. Access to sensitive information and functionality must be controlled to ensure that only authorized users are able to access these resources.
CAPEC-233: Privilege Escalation
An adversary exploits a weakness enabling them to elevate their privilege and perform an action that they are not supposed to be authorized to perform.
CAPEC-58: Restful Privilege Elevation
An adversary identifies a Rest HTTP (Get, Put, Delete) style permission method allowing them to perform various malicious actions upon server data due to lack of access control mechanisms implemented within the application service accepting HTTP messages.
