Summary
Jenkins BigPanda Notifier Plugin stores BigPanda API key unencrypted
Details

BigPanda Notifier Plugin 1.4.0 and earlier stores the BigPanda API key unencrypted in its global configuration file BigpandaGlobalNotifier.xml on the Jenkins controller as part of its configuration. This API key can be viewed by users with access to the Jenkins controller file system. Additionally, the global configuration form does not mask the API key, increasing the potential for attackers to observe and capture it.

Details

Turms Server v0.10.0-SNAPSHOT and earlier contains a plaintext password storage vulnerability in the administrator authentication system. The BaseAdminService class caches administrator passwords in plaintext within AdminInfo objects to optimize authentication performance. Upon successful login, raw passwords are stored unencrypted in memory in the rawPassword field. Attackers with local system access can extract these passwords through memory dumps, heap analysis, or debugger attachment, bypassing bcrypt protection.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Avoid storing passwords in easily accessible locations.

Mitigation
Architecture and Design

Consider storing cryptographic hashes of passwords as an alternative to storing in plaintext.

Mitigation

A programmer might attempt to remedy the password management problem by obscuring the password with an encoding function, such as base 64 encoding, but this effort does not adequately protect the password because the encoding can be detected and decoded easily.

No CAPEC attack patterns related to this CWE.
