Vulnerability from github – Published: 2025-09-26 09:31 – Updated: 2025-10-08 19:18
VLAI
Summary
WSO2's Input Validation Management Service contains Observable Discrepancy when Multi-Attribute Login is enabled
Details

A username enumeration vulnerability exists in multiple WSO2 products when Multi-Attribute Login is enabled. In this configuration, the system returns a distinct "User does not exist" error message to the login form, regardless of the validate_username setting. This behavior allows malicious actors to determine which usernames exist in the system based on observable discrepancies in the application's responses.

Exploitation of this vulnerability could aid in brute-force attacks, targeted phishing campaigns, or other social engineering techniques by confirming the validity of user identifiers within the system.

There is a fix available in version 7.8.491, however it has not been published to the Maven registry.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2023-12-18 20:01 – Updated: 2023-12-22 22:23
VLAI
Summary
yii2-authclient vulnerable to possible timing attack on string comparison in OAuth1, OAuth2 and OpenID Connect implementation
Details

Impact

What kind of vulnerability is it? Who is impacted?

Original Report:

The Oauth1/2 "state" and OpenID Connect "nonce" is vulnerable for a "timing attack" since it's compared via regular string comparison (instead of Yii::$app->getSecurity()->compareString()).

Affected Code:

  1. OAuth 1 "state"

    https://github.com/yiisoft/yii2-authclient/blob/0d1c3880f4d79e20aa1d77c012650b54e69695ff/src/OAuth1.php#L158

  2. OAuth 2 "state"

    https://github.com/yiisoft/yii2-authclient/blob/0d1c3880f4d79e20aa1d77c012650b54e69695ff/src/OAuth2.php#L121

  3. OpenID Connect "nonce"

    https://github.com/yiisoft/yii2-authclient/blob/0d1c3880f4d79e20aa1d77c012650b54e69695ff/src/OpenIdConnect.php#L420

Patches

Has the problem been patched? What versions should users upgrade to?

TBD: Replace strcmp with Yii::$app->getSecurity()->compareString()).

Workarounds

Is there a way for users to fix or remediate the vulnerability without upgrading?

not as far as I see.

** DISPUTED ** On Coldcard MK1 and MK2 devices, a side channel for the row-based OLED display was found. The power consumption of each row-based display cycle depends on the number of illuminated pixels, allowing a partial recovery of display contents. For example, a hardware implant in the USB cable might be able to leverage this behavior to recover confidential secrets such as the PIN and BIP39 mnemonic. In other words, the side channel is relevant only if the attacker has enough control over the device's USB connection to make power-consumption measurements at a time when secret data is displayed. The side channel is not relevant in other circumstances, such as a stolen device that is not currently displaying secret data. NOTE: At Coinkite, we?ve already mitigated it, even though we feel strongly that it is not a legitimate issue. In our opinion, it is both unproven (might not even work) and also completely impractical?even if it could be made to work perfectly.

Details

In TelecomManager, there is a possible way to check if a particular self managed phone account was registered on the device due to side channel information disclosure. This could lead to local information disclosure with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.Product: AndroidVersions: Android-12LAndroid ID: A-191768014

Mitigation MIT-46
Architecture and Design

Strategy: Separation of Privilege

  • Compartmentalize the system to have "safe" areas where trust boundaries can be unambiguously drawn. Do not allow sensitive data to go outside of the trust boundary and always be careful when interfacing with a compartment outside of the safe area.
  • Ensure that appropriate compartmentalization is built into the system design, and the compartmentalization allows for and reinforces privilege separation functionality. Architects and designers should rely on the principle of least privilege to decide the appropriate time to use privileges and the time to drop privileges.
Mitigation MIT-39
Implementation
  • Ensure that error messages only contain minimal details that are useful to the intended audience and no one else. The messages need to strike the balance between being too cryptic (which can confuse users) or being too detailed (which may reveal more than intended). The messages should not reveal the methods that were used to determine the error. Attackers can use detailed information to refine or optimize their original attack, thereby increasing their chances of success.
  • If errors must be captured in some detail, record them in log messages, but consider what could occur if the log messages can be viewed by attackers. Highly sensitive information such as passwords should never be saved to log files.
  • Avoid inconsistent messaging that might accidentally tip off an attacker about internal state, such as whether a user account exists or not.
CAPEC-189: Black Box Reverse Engineering

An adversary discovers the structure, function, and composition of a type of computer software through black box analysis techniques. 'Black Box' methods involve interacting with the software indirectly, in the absence of direct access to the executable object. Such analysis typically involves interacting with the software at the boundaries of where the software interfaces with a larger execution environment, such as input-output vectors, libraries, or APIs. Black Box Reverse Engineering also refers to gathering physical side effects of a hardware device, such as electromagnetic radiation or sounds.
