Common Weakness Enumeration

CWE-191

Allowed

Integer Underflow (Wrap or Wraparound)

Abstraction: Base · Status: Draft

The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result.

800 vulnerabilities reference this CWE, most recent first.

Details

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

hfs/hfsplus: fix u32 overflow in check_and_correct_requested_length

check_and_correct_requested_length() compares (off + len) against node_size using u32 arithmetic. When the caller passes a large len value (e.g. from an underflowed subtraction in hfs_brec_remove()), off + len can wrap past 2^32 and produce a small result, causing the bounds check to pass when it should fail.

For example, with off=14 and len=0xFFFFFFF2 (underflowed from data_off - keyoffset - size in hfs_brec_remove), off + len wraps to 6, which is less than a typical node_size of 512, so the check passes and the subsequent memmove reads ~4GB past the node buffer.

Fix this by widening the addition to u64 before comparing against node_size. This prevents the u32 wrap while keeping the logic straightforward.

Details

An exploitable denial-of-service vulnerability exists in ServiceAgent functionality of the Moxa AWK-3131A, firmware version 1.13. A specially crafted packet can cause an integer underflow, triggering a large memcpy that will access unmapped or out-of-bounds memory. An attacker can send this packet while unauthenticated to trigger this vulnerability.

GHSA-QRGR-2HHP-G9QM

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-09-24 18:31 – Updated: 2026-09-29 03:30
VLAI
Details

Bento4 1.6.0.0 contains an integer underflow vulnerability in the avcC and hvcC configuration atom parsers. A specially crafted MP4 file containing an atom with a declared size smaller than AP4_ATOM_HEADER_SIZE can cause AP4_AvccAtom::Create() or AP4_HvccAtom::Create() to underflow the payload-size calculation. The resulting oversized buffer operation can cause invalid or NULL pointers to be passed to the AP4_DataBuffer copy path, resulting in application termination and denial of service.

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2022-12-13 18:30 – Updated: 2022-12-15 06:30
VLAI
Details

In several functions that parse avrc response in avrc_pars_ct.cc and related files, there are possible out of bounds reads due to integer overflows. This could lead to remote information disclosure with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.Product: AndroidVersions: Android-10 Android-11 Android-12 Android-12L Android-13Android ID: A-242459126

GHSA-R5VV-79FP-2427

Vulnerability from github – Published: 2026-09-07 15:33 – Updated: 2026-09-09 00:30
VLAI
Details

A heap buffer overflow flaw was found in the SASL I/O layer of 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). In sasl_io_start_packet(), the wrapped-record length read from the wire is validated only against an upper bound. A small wire length (0, 1, or 2) produces an encrypted_buffer_count below the already-consumed encrypted_buffer_offset, causing an unsigned subtraction underflow in sasl_io_read_packet(). PR_Recv is then requested to read approximately 4 GiB into a 1024-byte heap buffer, resulting in a heap buffer overflow with attacker-controlled content. After a successful SASL bind with integrity protection (SSF > 0), a remote authenticated attacker can cause a denial of service or potentially achieve remote code execution. This flaw is distinct from CVE-2026-11774, whose fix only guards against upper-bound overflow.
